New Study Identifies Growth Opportunities for Adhesives; Applications in Transportation Markets Will Accelerate
AMHERST, N.H.--Oct. 16, 2000--There is a quiet revolution taking place in the transportation industry. Recent breakthroughs in automotive and aircraft designs have resulted in a string of announcements describing the successful use of synthetic parts and novel designs in applications previously considered too demanding for non-traditional materials. Materials producers are working with each other and with automotive and aircraft design teams to achieve milestones only recently thought to be unattainable. The success stories continue to grow in both interior and exterior applications, particularly in under-the-hood and structural components.Propelled by the need to make vehicles lighter and more energy efficient, these new components and materials signal a sea change in the way the next generation of automobiles, trucks and aircraft will be designed and built. Because of their ability to bond dissimilar materials, adhesives are being designed into new applications at an increasing rate. High performance adhesives that can maintain bond and seal integrity in the harsh conditions found, for example, in the engine compartment of a Pontiac Trans Am or the fuselage of an Airbus 320, will experience high demand.
To take advantage of the opportunities presented by these new design initiatives, adhesives suppliers must be fully aware of the numerous changes affecting the transportation industry, and be willing to act on this information by teaming with manufacturers to develop and prove out the bonding and joining processes that will be required to bring these new component designs to market. The stakes are high. In this climate, yesterday's design win can quickly become tomorrow's lost business.
Transportation Markets for High Performance Adhesives has been researched and written to be of maximum value to adhesives and sealant market participants. It consists of in-depth analyses, descriptions and evaluations of current and probable future market developments, technology issues and business factors - information necessary to compete effectively in the changing transportation market.
