HISTORIC CHAMP CARS ON PARADE AND ON DISPLAY TONIGHT!

SATURDAY OCTOBER 14 AT IRWINDALE SPEEDWAY

    Irwindale, Calif. - That's what all the "Big Cars" used to be called, simply 
"Champ Cars" … Short for Championship Cars.  The name referred to the national 
championship circuit, home-grown racing that was the top rung on the ladder of 
rough and tumble All-American open wheel racing, races that were contested at 
all the fabled racetracks like DuQuoin, Milwaukee, Langhorne, Phoenix, Terre 
Haute, Springfield, and Indianapolis.   

    Commemorating the USAC Silver Crown national event and Western States Sprint 
Car season-ender (and championship-decider) a number of vintage racing cars from 
the Historic Champ Car Association will take to the track for some pre-race parade 
laps to give the fans a glimpse back at some of the great racing cars of yesteryear. 

    For just a quick taste of the special cars that will take to the track TONIGHT 
how about:  A 1911 Ford Roadster from the Santa Monica Road Races, a 1927 Track 
Roadster, a 1930 Miller, the 1933 Craeger Special, Rex Mays' 1935 Gilmore Special, 
a 1950 Offy, the Sam Hanks 1952 Kurtis Bardahl Special, a 1960 Watson Offy Roadster 
(originally driven by Rodger Ward), and the 1969 Hank Henry "J-Ram" Sprinter 
… a veritable living museum of open wheel racing, all on parade before the Silver 
Crown race!

    Al of these cars, and more will be on display in the Chalet Village area of the 
race track both before and after their parade laps … This is a rare opportunity 
to see some of racing history's most important cars up-close and in actual operation 
in their natural surroundings … A race track.
