AMI-C Selects SmartMove to Participate on the Development Team For AMI-C's Release 2
DETROIT, Oct. 12 The Automotive Multimedia Interface
Collaboration (AMI-C) has selected SmartMove, the Belgium- and USA-based
telematics infrastructure software and hardware developer, to participate on
the development team responsible for producing AMI-C's next phase
specifications, Release 2. The selection is conditional upon final legal
agreements being signed.
AMI-C is a consortium of 12 global vehicle manufacturers whose goal is to
develop unified technical communication specifications to allow cellular
phones, PDAs, compact disc changers and many other electronic devices to work
interchangeably among vehicle types.
SmartMove, one of Europe's leading telematics software and hardware
suppliers, has developed a Java-based Open Telematics Framework that enables
service aggregators to provide secure transactions, billing, encryption,
updates and upgrades on-the-fly and all the other business functions necessary
to complete in-vehicle transactions. This completely open, protocol-neutral
technology allows automakers, technology suppliers and application developers
to create scalable end-to-end solutions and enables seamless access to outside
services and vehicle information.
"Since our company was founded in 1996, all of our technology and business
strategies have been consistent with the AMI-C goals. What's more, a standard
electronic gateway for automotive multimedia and telematics is inherent to our
Open Telematics Framework. Today's invitation by AMI-C to collaborate in the
development of its Release 2 not only is a great honour, it is another
acknowledgment of the technical capability and vision of our team," says
Steven Buytaert, co-CEO at SmartMove.
"SmartMove will share its expertise in required hardware and software
specifications to create a standard electronic gateway and expressed its
intention to assist in the development of a proof of concept demo. SmartMove
is committed to offer AMI-C compliant products, systems and services to its
clients and partners," added Marc Maes, co-CEO.
