New AAA Guide Offers ``Survivor'' Tips for World Travelers

LOS ANGELES--Oct. 11, 2000--If only castaways Richard Hatch, Kelly Wigglesworth, Rudy Boesch and Susan Hawk of CBS-TV's "Survivor" had the AAA guide to overseas travel at their fingertips, they might have skipped the rats, rice and rigors of Pagong Beach.
To help the island visitors and other travelers experience high adventure without misadventure, AAA has published the "World Passport to Safer Travel" -- a comprehensive pocket-sized guide featuring do's and taboos for travel to 117 countries.
"Americans of all ages are seeking to broaden their vacation experiences by traveling overseas," said Tim Irwin, managing director of the Automobile Club of Southern California's travel products and services. "Many of these travelers, especially those who are traveling overseas for the first time, need to understand the many cultural and other differences associated with these countries."
Featured in this 352-page, soft-cover book are easy-to-read, two-page spreads of each country, including emergency telephone numbers, information on local currencies, personal safety tips, and passport and visa requirements for U.S. citizens.
"The guide is aimed at seasoned vacationers as well as less experienced travelers, and young adults," Irwin said.
This informative guide is available to AAA and Auto Club members through local offices for $6.95. It's also distributed to bookstores through Simon and Schuster with a retail price of $8.95.
The Automobile Club of Southern California, the largest affiliate of the AAA, has been serving members since 1900. Today, the Auto Club's members benefit by the organization's roadside assistance, insurance products and services, travel agency, financial products, automotive pricing, buying and financing programs, automotive testing and analysis, trip planning services, highway and transportation safety programs and legislative advocacy. Information about these products and services is available on the Auto Club's Web site at www.aaa-calif.com.
