Collins & Aikman Names Griffen Senior Director, Acoustics Technology

    TROY, Mich.--Oct. 11, 2000--Collins & Aikman Corporation today announced the appointment of Christopher T. Griffen, Ph.D. as Senior Director of Acoustics Technology for its Global Product Development Division.
    In making the announcement, Graham Tompson, Senior Vice President of Global Product Development, noted "Dr. Griffen is a recognized industry expert in the field of automotive acoustics, vibration and structural dynamics. His expertise will be important as we intensify our position as the global leader in NVH/Acoustics product development. As increased emphasis is placed on telematics and acoustics in the marketplace, I'm confident that his extensive experience will enhance Collins & Aikman's competitive advantage as we develop innovative solutions to meet our customers' increasing acoustic requirements."
    Dr. Griffen has more than 23 years of progressively responsible engineering and technical specialty experience in the areas of NVH/acoustic product development, quality systems, and systems engineering for both General Motors and Ford Motor Company. Most recently, he was Senior Engineering Technical Specialist for Ford Motor Company. His many accomplishments include the designing, building and supervision of an acoustic and vibration lab for Ford, the design and implementation of an anechoic powertrain testing operation at GM's Flint, Mich., facility and developing solutions to noise and vibration problems on numerous GM vehicles.
    Dr. Griffen holds a bachelor's of science in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan, a master's of science in mechanical engineering from Wayne State University, a Ph.D. Sloan Fellowship from the University of Michigan, and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Oakland University. Additionally, Dr. Griffen has received numerous honors and has published over 30 technical articles.
