Enterprise Rent-A-Car 'Picks Up' More Attention for Excellence in Customer ServiceST. LOUIS, Oct. 11 Enterprise Rent-A-Car ( http://www.enterprise.com ) has been named the winner in Forbes magazine's October 16 list of companies that most value their customers' time. Enterprise, which is the largest car rental company in North America, is cited as "the best" in its industry, primarily because of its home pick-up service for customers. The magazine's list was compiled as part of a larger article in which the editors asked, "Shouldn't profits and customer service go hand in hand?" The winners were identified as those companies that emphasize "the importance of valuing their customers' time by creating internal practices and procedures to increase efficiency in providing customer service." In addition to rental cars, other ranked industries included airlines, banks, fast food, hotels, local phone service, mail/shipping, online merchants and retail. This is the third time in the past six months that Enterprise has been praised for outstanding customer service in a national ranking. Last August, Enterprise was recognized by CIO magazine as one of 100 companies achieving excellence in customer service through innovative uses of technology. Enterprise also finished highest in customer satisfaction in the J.D. Power and Associates 2000 Domestic Airport Rental Car Customer Satisfaction Study released last May, ranking above all seven of its veteran airport rental car competitors. In addition, Fortune magazine named Enterprise one of the "100 Best Companies to Work For" in 1999 and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) named Enterprise as a "Five-Star Standard" growth company along with Microsoft and Dell. "Customers may initially choose Enterprise because of our lower prices, but it is the combination of prices and superior service that keeps them coming back," said Andy Taylor, president and chief executive officer of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, which specializes in renting cars to local consumers in need of vehicles while theirs are being repaired. Founded in 1957, Enterprise Rent-A-Car has more than 4,400 locations worldwide and a fleet of nearly 500,000 vehicles. Fiscal 1999 sales were nearly $5 billion.
