Cummins Offers 280-hp C8.3G Natural Gas Engine for Automotive Market

COLUMBUS, Ind.--Oct. 10, 2000--Cummins Inc. today announced the introduction of a new 280-hp rating for the C8.3G gas engine.
"The C8.3G has become the engine of choice for operators looking for the best fuel economy in this class," said Dave O'Brien, marketing manager, alternative fuel engines, Cummins. "This new rating features more horsepower, along with enhanced diagnostic capabilities for improved maintenance."
The C8.3-280G has a peak torque of 850 lb-ft at 1400 rpm and a governed speed of 2400 rpm for outstanding performance in purpose-built vehicles such as refuse trucks.
In addition to its power, the C8.3G is highly efficient because of its spark ignition system with coil-on-plug technology and multiple spark discharge. Multiple spark discharge means smoother idling and acceleration, as well as increased spark plug life. The ignition system, together with closed loop electronic engine management controls, delivers excellent performance and superior reliability.
Like all Cummins engines, the C8.3G engine is supported by Cummins QuickServe,(R) which provides fast and responsive service for Cummins customers in North America. The QuickServe initiative allows for outstanding service and is supported by Cummins world-class distribution network. Cummins now accepts emergency parts orders until midnight Eastern standard time for next-day delivery to most locations in the U.S. and Canada. QuickServe has also expanded the availability of Genuine Cummins Parts, Cummins ReCon(R) components and Fleetguard/Nelson products.
