American Axle & Manufacturing Announces Executive Appointments
    DETROIT, Oct. 10 American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings,
Inc. (AAM), which is traded as AXL on the NYSE, today announced the following
executive appointments:
    Wayne J. Filichowski has been appointed managing director, Driveline
Division of AAM's UK-based subsidiary, Albion Automotive.  He formerly served
as manager, AAM Manufacturing System.
    Filichowski was born in St. Louis, Mo., and holds a bachelor of science in
Mechanical Engineering from the University of Missouri.
    Prior to joining AAM in 1997, Filichowski was vice president and general
manager of the Electronics Division of Walbro Corporation.  He also served as
director of quality for North American Operations at Dana Corporation, and
vice president and general manager of Warner Electric's Brake & Clutch
Division.
    He is a past member the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Committee Board
of Examiners, and was senior examiner in 1993 and 1994.  Filichowski also
served on the Board of Governors, Shingo Prize for Excellence in
Manufacturing.
    Kimberly D. Buhl has been appointed director, Indirect Procurement.
Buhl was born in the Detroit area and received her bachelor of science in
Industrial Administration from General Motors Institute (now Kettering
University).  Buhl also holds a master of science in Manufacturing Management
from General Motors Institute.
    Prior to joining AAM in August 2000, Buhl was General Motors' purchasing
manager -- Information Systems & Services.  She held various purchasing
positions during her 20-year tenure at General Motors and received the GM
Chief Information Officer (CIO) Award in 1999.  Buhl received the CIO Award
for developing a process for market testing and re-sourcing information
systems and services.
    Carrie L. P. Gray has been appointed director, Corporate Relations.
Gray was born in Detroit, Mich., and graduated from Cass Technical High
School.  She received her bachelor of science degrees in chemistry and
mathematics from the Detroit Institute of Technology.  She holds a finance and
marketing master of business administration and a Juris Doctorate, from the
University of Detroit and Detroit College of Law respectively.
    Prior to joining AAM on October 1, 2000, Gray was in private legal
practice, specializing in corporate and technical law.  From 1970 through
1992, she held various engineering, product development, strategic planning,
marketing and legal positions with Ford Motor Company and the former Chrysler
Corporation.
    Gray is highly active in community and professional organizations.  Her
memberships include the State Bar of Michigan, Bethel AME Church, Board of
Directors of the Automotive Hall of Fame, Boysville of Michigan and the Wayne
County Neighborhood Legal Services.
    Gray has received numerous honors and awards for her technical expertise,
leadership, and community involvement including the Engineering Society of
Detroit's "Iacocca" Recognition Award, the Automotive Hall of Fame "Young
Leadership & Excellence" Award, and the Spirit of Detroit Award.  Gray was
also named the Detroit Metropolitan YWCA "Outstanding Woman of the Year."
