Ultramar Diamond Shamrock Corporation Announces New Corporate Secretary

    SAN ANTONIO--Oct. 9, 2000--Ultramar Diamond Shamrock today announced that its board of directors has elected Todd Walker to serve as its corporate secretary.
    Walker succeeds Curt Anastasio, allowing Anastasio to devote full time to his new position as President of Shamrock Logistics, Limited Partnership (LP).
    Walker began his career with the company in 1987 as Corporate Counsel. He was promoted to Senior Counsel in 1993 and Managing Attorney in 1997. His legal work has focussed on the finance, credit, general corporate, acquisitions and securities areas.
    Walker, age 43, received a bachelor of arts in economics from Oklahoma State University in 1978. In 1982, he received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma.
    Ultramar Diamond Shamrock Corp., with about $15.0 billion in annual revenues and more than 20,000 employees, is one of the largest independent refining and marketing companies in North America. The company now operates seven refineries in the United States and Canada with a total throughput capacity of 850,000 barrels per day and has over 5,000 branded retail gasoline/convenience merchandise stores, the majority of which are branded Diamond Shamrock, Ultramar, Beacon or Total.
