National Car Rental Signs 2 Year PGA Extension

2 Year Extension as Title Sponsor of PGA Classic At Walt Disney World Resort

    FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - National Car Rental, a division of ANC Rental Corporation , has just announced its continued commitment to the PGA Tour by extending its sponsorship of the National Car Rental Golf Classic at the Walt Disney World Resort through 2002.

    "As the official car rental company of Walt Disney World Resort, the PGA Tour and PGA of America, National Car Rental's title sponsorship of this event is a logical extension of our partnership with these distinguished organizations," said John MacDonald, vice president of marketing National Car Rental.

    "We are excited about renewing our partnership with National Car Rental," added Kevin Weickel, Walt Disney World head professional and tournament director for the National Car Rental Golf Classic at Walt Disney World Resort. "During our partnership with National, we have revitalized our format and increased television ratings. The strength of our field the last two years has allowed our tournament to be rated among the top 10 events on the PGA Tour. Walt Disney World is proud to continue working with National Car Rental in developing the Golf Classic into one of the best events on the PGA Tour."

    This year's National Car Rental Classic is the richest in the event's 30-year history by a half-million dollars. The winning player will earn $540,000 of the $3 million purse. Tiger Woods returns to defend his title and if he wins, he will tie three-time winner Jack Nicklaus. This year's field consists of 144 competitors including former winner Jeff Maggert, plus Gary Nicklaus, John Daly and many other top pros who will play in this tournament before their final stop - The Tour Championship.

    The Classic will be held on Disney's beautiful Palm and Magnolia golf courses. The Magnolia golf course - named for the more than 1,500 magnolia trees that line the course - is host to the final round of the tournament that will be nationally televised.

    The Classic will be televised on ESPN Thursday through Saturday, with ABC-TV airing the final round on Sunday, October 29 beginning at 4:00 p.m.
