TUV Management Service Receives Accreditation from the German Department of Transportation (KBA) to provide ISO/TS 16949 CertificationDANVERS, Mass., Oct. 9 TUV Management Service (http://www.tuvglobal.com) announces that the German Department of Transportation (KBA) has accredited TUV Management Service on August 15, 2000 to provide accredited ISO/TS 16949 registration services worldwide to suppliers of automotive manufacturers. The addition of ISO/TS 16949 complements TUV's full suite of automotive services, which include ISO 9000, QS-9000, TE Supplement, VDA 6.1, ISO 14001 and AS9000. In offering ISO/TS 16949 certification, TUV Management Service is one of a select group of registrars that is accredited by the German Department of Transportation (KBA) to provide ISO/TS 16949 registration services. On August 18, 2000 TUV issued the first ISO/TS 16949 certificate to DaimlerChrysler AG for their Powertrain Business Unit, encompassing their Engines, Foundry Products and Harnesses plants located in Mannheim, Germany. Issuing certification to DaimlerChrysler makes TUV Management Service one of the first third party registrars to perform ISO/TS 16949 audits. ISO/TS 16949 (TS-Technical Specifications) was published in 1999 to create and promote harmonization of supplier quality system requirements for the automotive industry. ISO/TS 16949 is a common global registration scheme recognized by all participating organizations of the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) including, but not limited to, DaimlerChrysler AG , Ford Motor Company , General Motors Corporation , BMW (OTC: BAMXF) and Volkswagen (OTC: VALKF). ISO/TS 16949 was developed based upon ISO 9001:1994, AVSQ (Italian), EAQF (French), QS-9000 (US) and VDA 6.1 (German) automotive quality management system standards. It is anticipated that ISO/TS 16949 will represent substantial efficiencies for automotive industry suppliers by allowing one audit to satisfy the quality system requirements of QS-9000, VDA 6.1, AVSQ and EAQF. Currently ISO/TS 16949 does not replace these existing standards but represents an option for suppliers. The IATF plans to integrate ISO/TS 16949 with ISO 9001:2000 (expected to be published in November 2000), with a second edition of ISO/TS 16949 planned for 2001.
