AMA: Nash: Mr. Consistency in AMA Buell Pro Thunder Championship
6 October 2000
PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- Consistency was key for New Zealander Jeffrey Nash in taking the 2000 AMA Buell Pro Thunder Series Championship. Throughout the year, Nash never finished off the podium, which helped him clinch the title even before last weekend's series finale at Willow Springs Raceway in Rosamond, Calif. "We're very happy of course," said Nash. "The season has been a whole lot of work, and I couldn't have done it without the crew and our sponsors, Advanced Motorsports, Arai, Ohlins, Dunlop and Structural One." Nash's third-place finish at Willow continued a string of consistent finishes this year that included four seconds and four third-place finishes aboard the Advanced Motorsports Ducati. Nash is already planning for the 2001 season, and he looks forward to an expanded team and additional sponsor support. "Hopefully, winning this championship will bring us a little more attention," Nash said. "We'll be approaching new sponsors and would like to put together a Superbike effort and a two-rider team." The 37-year old Nash holds several regional and vintage racing titles, including the 1998 American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) Sound of Thunder and Sound of Singles Championships. He began racing with AMA Pro Racing in 1998, entering the Pro Thunder event at Mid-Ohio that year and taking seventh place. He returned to the AMA Pro Thunder grid in 1999, earning six top-five results, including third-place finishes at Road America and Mid-Ohio.
