Test Drive Revolutionizes Electric Propulsion and Fuel Cell TechnologyNEW YORK, Oct. 5 The Alternative Fuel Vehicle Group announces that "Electric Vehicle Progress" editor Layne Holley was chosen by EVonyx as their official observer during a historic, record-setting test drive of an electric vehicle powered by their new zinc-air Revolutionary Power Cell (RPC). The goal of the project was to drive from New York to Detroit without refueling or recharging, approximately 600 miles. The test team, including Ms. Holley, left from the site of Thomas Edison's first factory in West Orange, New Jersey, at about 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 2. The new power cell was installed in two modified Honda Insights. EVonyx (a subsidiary of Reveo, Inc.) developed the zinc-air Reveo power cell by harnessing the chemistry of solid zinc fuel and atmospheric oxygen to provide a truly zero-emission power source. The RPC functions as both a fuel cell and a battery in that it is both refuelable and rechargeable. Currently, most fuel cell technology focuses on hydrogen.
