Global Summit for Women Opens in South Africa
    JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, Oct. 4 DaimlerChrysler
Corporation is the major sponsor of the 10th annual Global Summit of Women
2000 beginning Thursday, Oct. 5 in Johannesburg, South Africa.  Former 1st
lady of Africa Graca Simbine Machel (wife of Nelson Mandella) and Delano
Lewis, U.S. ambassador to South Africa will be among the hundreds of
participants representing business, government and education interests from
throughout the world.
    "Our sponsorship allows DaimlerChrysler an opportunity to demonstrate, on
a global scale, our continuing commitment to the economic, social and
political advancement of women," said Monica Emerson, DaimlerChrysler
Corporation Director of Staffing, Development and Diversity.  "This summit
provides a vehicle for women to establish and deepen their partnership with
those who share their concerns."
    Emerson, who is leading the DaimlerChrysler delegation to the global
summit, said that the venue provides an opportunity to achieve corporate
business objectives.  "As a global company, we value the intellectual
capability of women and know that our presence will help demonstrate our
commitment to attract the best talent from throughout the world," she said.
    The summit will explore a broad range of issues, from Global Business
Development opportunities, to e-commerce and Capitalization Strategies.
    During the conference, Dianna Mercer-Pryor, DaimlerChrysler Corporation
Director of Operational Procurement and Special Supplier Relations will
discuss the impact of the women's market and automotive efforts to reach these
consumers.  Debra Nelson, Senior Manager for Marketing Diversity and North
American Regional Communications will provide corporate prospective of the
need to balance work and family, in order to recruit and retain a globally
competitive workforce.
    The conference concludes Saturday.
