DaimlerChrysler's Chrysler Group Reports Strong September Sales
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 3 DaimlerChrysler Corporation's
Chrysler Group posted strong September sales spurred by increased sport
utility vehicle, truck and minivan sales. Total sales of 219,966 units set an
all-time September record and were up five percent compared with sales of
208,544 in September of 1999.
"We have been very aggressive in moving out our 2000 model year inventory,
clearing the way for the '01 products now arriving at dealer showrooms. This
was a very good month for all of our divisions in the face of some very strong
competition," said Theodor R. Cunningham, Executive Vice President, Global
Sales and Marketing. "We expect the 2001 product line to start having an
impact on our sales numbers next month as we see increased availability of our
all-new mid-size sedans and sport coupes and our all-new line of minivans."
September Sales Highlights:
* Total truck sales of 170,864 were up 20 percent versus 1999, setting a
new September record.
* Record SUV sales climbed 14 percent to 71,854 units compared with
63,123 last year.
* Minivan sales of 47,163 were up 56 percent over last year, breaking the
previous September record set in 1996.
* Chrysler Brand sales of 44,494 were up 64 percent.
* Chrysler Town and Country sales gained 69 percent versus last year.
* Chrysler PT Cruiser sales were 11,180 and total 56,789 for the year to
date.
* Dodge Division record sales of 124,676 were up six percent compared
with 117,187 in 1999.
* Record Dodge Caravan sales of 27,531 were up 65 percent compared with
16,684 last September.
* Dodge Dakota recorded best-ever September sales of 12,568, up 38
percent.
* Record Dodge Intrepid sales gained 4 percent compared with last year's
record of 13,685.
