American Suzuki Posts Highest September Sales in 13 Years; New 2001 Models Drive Strong Sales

    BREA, Calif., Oct. 3 American Suzuki Motor Corporation
finished the third quarter of the year posting 48,430 year-to-date sales, a
31-percent increase over corresponding 1999 sales.  Last month marked American
Suzuki's highest September sales in 13 years, selling 5582 vehicles, an
18-percent sales increase over the same period last year.  The Grand Vitara
recorded its second-best sales month since its introduction with 3494 sales, a
30-percent increase over September 1999 sales.  The Esteem Sedan and Wagon
continued to sell well, notching 1326 sales for September, a 46-percent
increase over 1999 sales for the same month.
    "At Suzuki, we work at offering consumers stylish, dependable SUVs and
cars that are packed with up-scale standard features typically found as
extra-cost accessories on competitors' models.  Judging by our continually
climbing sales, expanding dealer network, and excitement generated by our
2001 model-year line, we are on the right track," said Gary Anderson, vice
president of sales.  "With the December introduction of our new XL-7, we
expect sales to continue to rise and the public to be very excited about the
features and versatility offered by the largest Suzuki ever built."
