American Honda Sets New Model Year Sales Record; Honda Division Tops One Million Sales for First Time Ever
TORRANCE, Calif., Oct. 3 American Honda reported an
all-time record for 2000 model year sales of 1,162,342, up 8.9% compared to
last year, according to figures released by the company today. In addition,
record sales of Honda cars and light trucks pushed Honda Division sales over
the one million mark for the first time ever.
"The market shows no sign of letting up and neither does Honda," said Dick
Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda.
Model year sales highlights include:
-- American Honda car and light truck sales both set new records of
885,809 and 276,533 units, up 1.8% and 40.3% respectively.
-- Honda Division sales rose 8.3% to 1,029,234 for a new all-time high.
-- Record Honda Division light truck sales of 276,162, up 40.6%, were
fueled by record Odyssey and CR-V sales of 128,105 and 125,911 units
respectively.
-- Acura Division sales rose 13.5% for the model year to 133,108 boosted
by record 3.2 TL sales of 67,359, up 25.5% and strong 3.2 CL sales of
23,851, up 14.2%.
September American Honda sales of 102,735 topped the 100,000 mark for the
fifth consecutive month and increased 12.8% compared to a year ago.
Honda Division sales posted an 11.9% increase for September with record
sales of 90,923 vehicles. To further enhance Honda car sales, an all-new 2001
Civic and significantly upgraded 2001 Accord were introduced last month.
Led by sales of the record breaking 3.2 TL and the new 2001 3.2 CL,
September Acura sales rose 20.1% over last year to 11,812 vehicles. The
all-new Acura MDX luxury SUV goes on sale October 5th.
