Johnson Controls Appoints Waraniak as Director of New E-Business Activity
    PLYMOUTH, Mich., Oct. 3 Johnson Controls has
named John Waraniak director of e-business speed for the company's Automotive
Systems Group. He is a member of the firm's new E-Program Office, which was
established this year to manage global e-business activities, increase
productivity and accelerate profitability for Johnson Controls and its
automotive customers.

    For the past two years, Waraniak has worked as an independent advisor to
various automotive companies in the areas of collaborative product commerce
and business model transformation. Prior to that, he served in a number of
strategic management and executive leadership positions. Waraniak has 20 years
of experience in the management consulting and automotive, aerospace,
motorsports and consumer goods industries. He has worked for General Motors,
Hughes Aircraft, Oracle, Benchmarking Partners (Surgency) and No Fear Inc.
Waraniak has helped companies develop innovative e-business models and adapt
best business and internet technology practices for mass customization, build-
to-order modularization and niche/low volume vehicle production. He also
specialized in vehicle systems engineering management and the development of
competitive value chain strategies to enable the "X-day car."

    Waraniak achieved a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering
from the University of Michigan. He earned a master's degree in mechanical and
industrial engineering from the University of Illinois, and a master of
science degree in engineering management from West Coast University. Waraniak
also graduated from the California Institute of Technology's Executive
Engineering Management Program. He resides in Orchard Lake, Michigan.
    In August, Waraniak co-chaired and presented "Collaborative Product and
Process Development" at the 2000 University of Michigan Automotive Management
Briefing seminars in Traverse City, Michigan. In October, he will be making
presentations at several automotive industry conferences. On October 3,
Waraniak will be at E-Autoworld in San Diego, California presenting "Web-
enabled Mass Customization for the Automotive Second Century." He also will
moderate and present during the "Build to Order: A New Frontier of IT
Challenges" session at the IT Executive Forum sponsored by the Society of
Manufacturing Engineers on October 26 in Dearborn, Michigan.
    The Plymouth, Michigan-based automotive business of Johnson Controls --
which employs more than 65,000 people at 275 facilities worldwide -- achieved
US$12.1 billion in sales for the 1999 fiscal year. In model-year 2000, it will
supply interior products for more than 23 million vehicles.
