Prakash Mulchandani, Senior Vice President and President, Commercial Vehicle Systems, ArvinMeritor, Inc. to Retire
TROY, Mich., Oct. 2 ArvinMeritor, Inc. today
announced that Prakash Mulchandani, senior vice president and president,
Commercial Vehicle Systems (CVS), ArvinMeritor, Inc. has announced his
intention to retire after 26 years of service, effective Jan. 1, 2001. From
now until his date of retirement, Prakash will work closely with his successor
on several strategic issues to assure an orderly transition of leadership in
CVS.
Prakash has served in his current position since the merger of Arvin
Industries, Inc. and Meritor Automotive, Inc. on July 7, 2000. Prior to the
merger, he served as the senior vice president and president, Meritor Heavy
Vehicles Systems. In this capacity, he was responsible for managing the
company's global components and systems operations for heavy vehicle OEMs.
Under his leadership, the company made key strategic acquisitions, including
the Lucas Varity Heavy Vehicle Braking Systems and Volvo Truck axle
businesses. These moves supported the company's goal of becoming the world's
leading independent supplier of drivetrain components and systems to medium-
and heavy-duty truck manufacturers.
"We are indebted to Prakash for his many contributions and strong
leadership," said Bill Hunt, vice chairman and president of ArvinMeritor.
"Throughout his time with the company, Prakash has brought a wealth of
knowledge and experience into managing one of the largest suppliers of axles
and brake components and systems in the global heavy-duty truck and trailer
industry."
Prakash joined ArvinMeritor's predecessor, Rockwell, in 1974. In 1989, he
was named general manager of the Trailer Products business. He was appointed
vice president and general manager of Worldwide Trailer Products in 1993. The
next year, he was named president of the company's former North American Truck
Systems business. In 1996, Prakash assumed global responsibility as president
of Worldwide Truck and Trailer products. Before joining Rockwell, Prakash
held engineering and financial positions at Dow Chemical Co. and Owens Corning
Fiberglass Corporation.
Commenting on Mulchandani's departure, Hunt said, "Prakash leaves a
significant legacy. Under his capable leadership, our Commercial Vehicle
Systems business has earned a reputation for the highest standards in
technical innovation, customer-focused service and quality products. He will
be missed."
A successor for Mulchandani will be named shortly.
