DaimlerChrysler Corporation Sponsors the Student Case Competition As part of the National Black MBA Association Conference2000 Competition marks sixth year of DaimlerChrysler support Company sponsors South African team from The University of Stellenbosch, the first international team to participate AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 2 For the sixth year, DaimlerChrysler Corporation will sponsor the Student Case Competition held in conjunction with the National Black MBA Association's (NBMBAA) annual conference. But for the first time, the competition will have an international flavor. With DaimlerChrysler's support, The University of Stellenbosch, located outside of Cape Town, South Africa, will participate in the conference, held in Chicago at McCormick Place October 4-8, as well as the Case Competition October 6-7. Established in 1992 to increase student participation and interaction within the NBMBAA, this year's competition involves 34 top U.S. business schools plus one international school, providing a solution to a challenging business case prepared by a Chrysler Group Finance team. The challenge for the teams this year is to develop a Telematics strategy for DaimlerChrysler that will leapfrog the competition. "Being involved in NBMBAA conference has helped us showcase our products and people to a diverse audience and allowed us to identify top talent for potential employment at DaimlerChrysler," said Frank Fountain, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs. "As a company that is committed to diversity in the workplace and providing educational opportunities for minorities, DaimlerChrysler is pleased to sponsor the Student Case Competition for the sixth year." The teams will compete for scholarship awards of $12,000 for the first place team, $9,000 for the second place team and $6,000 for the third place team. They have four weeks to prepare an analysis and presentation of the business case, and will then present their findings before a panel of corporate executives including nine representatives from DaimlerChrysler at the conference. The University of Stellenbosch joins the business schools of such renowned universities as Carnegie Mellon University, Georgetown University, MIT, the University of California at Los Angeles, the University of Michigan and Yale University in this year's competition. The University of Stellenbosch recently awarded an honorary doctorate degree to DaimlerChrysler AG's chairman Juergen Schrempp. Before traveling to Chicago for the competition, the Stellenbosch team -- consisting of four students and one advisor -- will visit the company's headquarters in Auburn Hills as well as tour a local assembly plant, visit the Walter P. Chrysler Museum and participate in a vehicle ride and drive.
