Operations has been awarded a $280,000 job-training grant by the Michigan
Economic Development Corporation. The State of Michigan grant is offered to
businesses to provide funds to strengthen the skills of the Michigan
workforce.
Delphi Energy & Chassis - Saginaw Operations is a producer of high
performance brake systems. To continue to meet the high standards its
customers demand, Delphi must have a well-trained and motivated workforce.
"Our people are our greatest asset, therefore, investment in their
development will continue to help position us as a market leader in brake
systems," said Gay Terry, Delphi Energy & Chassis - Saginaw Operations plant
manager. "A well-trained work force enables all members of the organization
to contribute toward our common vision, goals, and objectives, allowing us to
exceed our customer's expectations."
Bob Lauria, UAW Local 467 chairperson agrees. "With the constant changes
in technology and manufacturing methods, this grant is a very important means
of funding training to help keep our employees competitive in the global
market today and in the future."
Delphi will partner with Delta College Corporate Services to provide its
operators and skilled trades employees with training in advanced technology.
Training will include robot operation and maintenance, coordination of
measuring machine applications, heliarc welding, and air
conditioning/refrigeration maintenance.
"This is a win/win for everyone," said Greg Talicska, Delphi Energy &
Chassis - Saginaw Operations personnel director. "This grant helps us provide
essential training that will enable us to grow and improve our competitive
position." UAW Local 467 president, Bruce Neymeiyer adds, "If our plant is to
exceed our customer's expectations and be competitive, we must continue to
prepare our people for success."
