Syntroleum Team Nominated for DOE Ultra-Clean Fuels ProgramTULSA, Okla., Oct. 2 Syntroleum Corp. announced today that it has been selected by the US Department of Energy (DOE) to participate in one of eight teams of companies that have been identified as potential participants in the DOE's program to help pioneer a new generation of ultra-clean transportation fuels and tailpipe emission controls. The team, lead by Integrated Concepts & Research Corporation (ICRC), includes Syntroleum, DaimlerChrysler, Arthur D. Little, the National Park Service, Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Alaska and West Virginia University. The $36 million project, which has yet to be negotiated and finalized, anticipates $18 million in funding from the DOE and the remaining $18 million from participants. Using Syntroleum technology, the program's purpose is to demonstrate the effective production, testing, adaptation and use of ultra- clean synthetic fuels that can be delivered by existing fuel infrastructures. The concept targets remote gas that is currently being flared, with the objective of capturing otherwise wasted and polluting resources and turning them into valuable, environmentally friendly fuel products. The fuels from this project will be used to test and demonstrate the benefits of clean fuels by the National Park Service and bus fleets such as those operated by the Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority and other large urban communities.
