PPG to Buy Dean & Barry Retail Paint Business

PITTSBURGH--Oct. 2, 2000--PPG Architectural Finishes, a subsidiary of PPG Industries , has agreed in principle to acquire the retail paint business of New Dean & Barry Ltd. of Columbus, Ohio.
Terms of the transaction, expected to be completed in October, were not disclosed. While details remain to be negotiated, the purchase would include a network of retail stores, most of them in Ohio.
The acquired stores would continue to sell Dean & Barry and Pittsburgh Paints architectural and industrial products, as well as sundries, wall coverings and decorative products, according to Richard A. Beuke, president of PPG Architectural Finishes. Pittsburgh Paints is PPG's oldest national paint brand.
"The acquisition will strengthen our architectural coatings business in Ohio, and it reflects our strategy of utilizing established regional brands as we continue to expand our business," Beuke said. "The Dean & Barry brand has been familiar to Ohio consumers for 109 years."
