Sapient Creates Two New Business Units to Capitalize On Industry Growth

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--Oct. 2, 2000--Sapient today announced it has created two new business groups as a result of the rapid growth of its business among clients in the company's Manufacturing, Retail, and Distribution business unit. The new groups are Retail and Consumer Products and Technology and Industrial Services.
These new groups, which replace the Manufacturing, Retail, and Distribution business unit, strengthen Sapient's ability to serve clients and develop the deep industry expertise for which it is well known.
"Large companies continue to invest in their e-business strategies, and are looking for industry-specific experience and perspective," said Paul DiGiammarino, Sapient's executive vice president in charge of the North American region. "With these steps, we are positioning ourselves to serve our clients in the most effective way."
Sapient first aligned its services by industry group three years ago to bring more focused expertise to clients. "We've seen many benefits from our industry-focused approach," DiGiammarino continued. "Our people have gained a well-informed industry perspective and, as a company, we've been better able to anticipate market trends and apply those insights to help clients succeed."
Joseph G. Carrolo, a Sapient vice president, will lead the new Technology and Industrial Services business unit, which will serve the technology, automotive, and industrial products and services markets. Carrolo joined Sapient in 1995 and most recently co-led the technology group within Sapient's Manufacturing, Retail and Distribution business unit. He has more than twenty years of consulting experience in the technology and manufacturing sectors, including nine years with Hewlett-Packard.
The Retail and Consumer Products business unit will be led by Christopher M. Markesky and will serve retail, consumer-products, and packaged-goods companies. Prior to this new position, he led the retail group within Sapient's Manufacturing, Retail and Distribution business unit. Markesky, a Sapient vice president, also managed Sapient's California operations and opened its Atlanta office. He has been with Sapient since 1994.
Sapient's Manufacturing, Retail, and Distribution business unit has been the company's second largest client segment, accounting for 16 percent of total revenue as of June 30, 2000.
As previously announced, Alex Kormushoff, the former head of Sapient's Manufacturing, Retail, and Distribution business unit, now leads the company's new office in Munich, Germany.
