Ward's Reports Estimated Production
    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Sept. 29 Vehicle production this week
in the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 376,431 units,
down from the 382,293 cars and trucks built last week, according to Ward's
Automotive Reports.
    Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now
totals 13,661,913 vehicles, up 2.8 percent from like-1999's pace.
    In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 261,775 vehicles this
week, a decrease of 5.6 percent from the 277,325 cars and trucks built last
week.  To date, calendar 2000 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated
9,927,131 units, up 1.1 percent from the 9,819,184 vehicles built in like-
1999.
    This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 61,124, a 4.1
percent decrease from the 63,750 units assembled last week.  Estimated
calendar-2000 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 2,287,253 units, down
0.4 percent compared to the 2,296,358 vehicles produced in like-1999.
    Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S.,
General Motors Corp. accounted for 36.0 percent; Ford Motor Co., 29.3 percent;
Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 11.7 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 4.8
percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 4.9 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 3.1
percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 2.6 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive
Inc., 1.8 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 2.1 percent;
AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.8 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of
DaimlerChrysler, 0.6 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 0.7 percent; and
other manufacturers, 1.6 percent.
