Course set for the 2001 BMW Motorsport Programme

Munich. BMW sets the course for the 2001 motorsport programme:
After this year's successful return in the Formula One World
Championship, BMW again gives clear priority to the operations of the
BMW WilliamsF1 Team in 2001. 

The participation in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) will continue
next year, but not with the BMW V12 LMR that won the famous Le Mans
24-hour race in 1999, and with which German Jorg Muller is currently
leading the ALMS drivers' championship. Instead, BMW will intensify its
involvement with the new BMW M3 in the GT category of the series.
 
The 2001 programme excludes participation in the Deutsche
Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) next season, but does not change the
company's effort to return to international touring car racing in the
medium-term. As a clear sign of its commitment to touring car racing,
BMW will further develop the BMW 320i DTC for customer activities, in
preparation for possible future racing programmes with this car.

The long-term planning also includes the continuation of both the BMW
Formula ADAC Championship and BMW ADAC Formula Junior Cup.
This will be the 11th season of the programme that supports young
talented formula drivers. The series have already paved the way for
successful drivers including Ralf Schumacher.
