The End for Firestone If Ford Customers Choose Michelin? just-auto.com ReportsLONDON, Sept. 29 http://www.just-auto.com -- Firestone now faces competition from French tire maker, Michelin, as The Ford Motor Company plans to let customers choose their tire brand on the 2002 Explorer SUV. The report by Reuters at http://www.just-auto.com/news_detail.asp?art=14903 says that Ford has signed a contract with Michelin for it to supply tires for the Explorer. Following the tire recall, the future looks bleak for Firestone. A Ford spokeswoman said about the tires, "Consumers will ultimately decide and Ford would not be surprised if the bulk of the tires end up being Michelin."
