REMINDER/Press Conference Reminder Aviation History Set In Sandpoint, Idaho
SANDPOINT, Idaho--Sept. 28, 2000--On December 17, 1903, when the Wright Brother's flew into aviation history with their first successful motorized flight, Officials in the U.S. government didn't believe they had truly done so.
When Dr. Forrest M. Bird Sc.D, Ph.D, M.D. flew his Piper Cub with no sparkplugs or magnetos -- he almost didn't believe it either. The magnetos were disabled and the sparkplugs were replaced with SmartPlugs(TM), a new, patented catalytic ignition system with no moving parts or high voltage required. Dr. Bird will repeat this flight for the press and the public on the 29th of September, 2000 at 10:00 AM.
"The most significant advantage to the aviation industry is the inherent safety of the SmartPlug ignition system," said Cherry, inventor of the SmartPlug(TM). The System has no moving parts to wear or get "out of tune" unlike magnetos and sparkplugs. It also will continue to ignite the engine even with no external electrical power. According to the NTSB, magneto failure is the leading mechanical reason piston power airplanes experience forced landings or crashes
Additional benefits of the SmartPlug Catalytic ignition system are:
-- | no electro-magnetic interference (less radio static) |
-- | 3lbs total ignition system weight |
-- | extremely high altitude capability |
-- | automatic altitude compensation |
-- | ignites low octane fuels without detonation |
-- | Multi-Fuel capable |
The SmartPlug(TM) technology was developed and tested over the last ten years by Automotive Resources, Inc. The internationally patented technology has been licensed to kNEW Corporation, a newly formed manufacturing and marketing company located in Sandpoint, Idaho. The SmartPlug technology has received funding from NASA, EPA, and The DOD. kNEW Corporation is in the early capital formation stage.
