SAGEM Joins Johnson Controls' Peer Partnering ProgramLeader in cockpit instrumentation and vehicle electronics brings new strength to the interior PARIS, Sept. 28 Johnson Controls today announced that Paris, France-based automotive supplier SAGEM will join its Peer Partnering(TM) program. SAGEM is a recognized European market leader in cockpit instrumentation, on-board electronics, electronic control units and software, ignitions, and emission control equipment. The Kion concept vehicle from Johnson Controls on exhibit here at the Mondial de l'Automobile show features a newly developed instrument cluster co- developed with SAGEM. This unique instrument cluster separates information for the driver onto multiple planes, simplifying vehicle information. Critical information -- such as the speedometer and fuel gauge -- is displayed on the primary plane. Secondary information, such as temperature and oil pressure gauges, time, and the navigation system are on a separate plane. "We are very excited about working with Johnson Controls," said Pierre Faurre, chairman of the board and chief executive officer for SAGEM. "Together we can truly add value to the cockpit module in the interior." The Kion concept vehicle on display at Johnson Controls' booth at the Mondial de L'Automobile will make its North American debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2001. Johnson Controls and SAGEM continue to work on additional cockpit and cluster products, some of which will be on display at the Convergence 2000 show, from October 16 to 18, at Cobo Center in Detroit, Michigan, USA. Peer Partnering is a core business strategy for Johnson Controls. The company has made a commitment to co-develop advanced electronics for integration into automotive vehicle interiors, supported by a group of strategic relationships. "Johnson Controls' Peer Partnering strategy leverages our experience in design, development and integration of interior electronics, and expands that through co-development projects with industry leaders, like SAGEM," said Jim Geschke, vice president and general manager of electronics integration for Johnson Controls. "We feel that SAGEM's knowledge of cockpit electronic systems and components makes them a great addition to our list of Peer Partners." Johnson Controls formally introduced the Peer Partnering strategy in January 2000 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan, USA. In addition to SAGEM, the company's current Peer Partners include Gentex Corp.; Jabil Circuit, Inc.; Microchip Technology, Inc.; Royal Philips Electronics; Tokai Rika, and Yazaki North America. This new business model allows Johnson Controls to provide the latest technologies to automakers. In addition, the design and development of interior electronics through these new relationships allows for new technologies to be developed more rapidly and integrated sooner into vehicles. Johnson Controls and the automakers avoid additional capital investment by leveraging the technology expertise of each company.
