TRW Inc. Signs Licensing Agreements with Eyematic Interfaces for Computer-Vision Technologies that Enhance Automotive Safety, Convenience

CLEVELAND--Sept. 27, 2000--In another step to expand its automotive technology base and safety systems leadership, TRW Inc. has obtained an equity stake in Eyematic Interfaces and signed licensing agreements to use Eyematic's proprietary technology for automotive safety and convenience applications.
    Terms were not disclosed.
Los Angeles-based Eyematic Interfaces is a leading developer of computer-vision recognition and sensing technologies. The company's proprietary Visual Interface Technology(TM) is the most accurate computer-vision-based human recognition and sensing technology on the market. The company's breakthroughs in computer vision have rewritten the process by which computers can recognize and interact with humans in a host of environments.
The Eyematic technology can be used for occupant sensing and to determine if occupants are out of position in a pre-crash situation so that safety restraints can be tailored to enhance occupant protection.
"We are excited by the possibilities that this outstanding technology offers for applications that will increase automotive safety and convenience," said David Cote, TRW president and chief operating officer. "Coupled with TRW's expertise in advanced safety systems and automotive security systems, Eyematic's technology will expand our product offering in some key growth areas."

TRW is the world's leading producer of integrated safety systems. The company continues to advance occupant safety through faster and more sophisticated sensing; tailorable restraints; frontal, side and rollover protection; advanced seat belt technology; integrated steering wheel systems; and increased occupant protection. In addition, TRW is a leading producer of electronic security and convenience products, including vehicle remote keyless entry systems and theft-deterrent systems using radio-frequency technology.
Among the world's largest automotive suppliers, Cleveland, Ohio-based TRW also provides advanced-technology products and services to the aerospace and information technology markets worldwide. Company news releases are available on two internet sites (www.trw.com and www.businesswire.com/trw/).

In addition to developing computer-vision technologies, Eyematic Interfaces is an innovator of interactive "rich media" authoring, playback, communication software and supporting infrastructure solutions. Differentiated by its proprietary Visual Interface Technology(TM), the company offers the next important step in the evolution of rich media for entertainment, advertising and communications over internet, wireless and broadband networks.
