Effective March 31, 2000, suppliers to GM plants worldwide were required to label all parts shipments with appropriate bar code shipping labels from the GM1724 standard set. Compliant labels must have all the required information, use specified fonts and include readable bar codes. As of January 1, 2001, non-compliant GM suppliers may be penalized if their GM1724A shipping labels do not conform to specifications.
