National Car Rental Wins Corporate Transportation Award; Diversity Accomplishments Recognized by Minority Enterprise Conference
Business EditorsAUSTIN, Texas--Sept. 27, 2000--National Car Rental, a division of ANC Rental Corporation , was recently awarded the Corporate Transportation Award at the Regional Minority Enterprises Development Conference in Austin, Texas. The 11-state joint conference between the Texas Conference of Black Mayors, and the Texas Department of Transportation, now in its 14th year, presented National with the award in recognition of its proactive stance in identifying and developing partnerships and alliances with minority- and women-owned businesses.
National has articulated specific objectives in relation to partnering with minority- and women-owned business. They are to identify opportunities within its core business, to identify minority suppliers and to assist those suppliers in growing their businesses. Late in 1999, National identified a small logistics consulting firm, that had its own ground freight transportation company, as a strong candidate.
"National has a long standing commitment to foster relationships with minority- and women-owned businesses and we are delighted to receive this award acknowledging that commitment," said National Car Rental President Ernest Johnson.
National Car Rental associate Ruth Carter, responsible for diversity and community alliances, was also awarded the Minority Business Advocate Award for her outstanding work in identifying areas of opportunities and assisting minority-owned businesses in their bid for corporate contracts. National increased its procurement level with minority businesses by 10 percent nationally in 1999, which makes National a leader in the car rental industry.
