Pennsylvania Auto Theft Prevention Authority: Free Vehicle VIN Etching Offered In Luzerne County
Vehicle Identification Numbers Etched onto Vehicle Windows as a Means
                             Of Theft Prevention

HAZLETON, Pa., Sept. 27 The Pennsylvania Auto Theft
Prevention Authority and the Lackawanna and Luzerne County District Attorneys'
offices will be holding a free VIN etching event on Saturday, September 30,
2000, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The event will be held at Hazleton School
Vocational Center.
VIN etching is a proven theft deterrent, where the Vehicle's
Identification Number (VIN) is etched onto all the vehicle windows. Would-be
thieves resist stealing a vehicle that is VIN etched because that vehicle is
more easily identified and, if stolen, all glass must be replaced in order to
remove traces of the VIN.
This is a free service provided by the Authority. The District Attorneys'
staff, county and local police officers, and volunteers from local insurance
companies will etch vehicles (weather permitting) on a first-come, first-
served basis. The Authority encourages you to spend some time with them on
Saturday morning to help protect your vehicle.
Pre-event questions about the Authority may be directed to Ken Robinson at
215-485-1636 or 717-975-0812.
