Pennsylvania Auto Theft Prevention Authority: Free Vehicle VIN Etching Offered In Cumberland County
Vehicle Identification Numbers Etched Onto Vehicle Windows as a Means of Theft
                                  Prevention

CARLISLE, Pa., Sept. 27 The Pennsylvania Auto Theft
Prevention Authority, the Cumberland County District Attorney's Office and the
Pennsylvania State Police will be holding a free VIN etching event on
Saturday, September 30, 2000, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The event will be
held at the Kmart Plaza on Walnut Bottom Road, Carlisle.
VIN etching is a proven theft deterrent, where the Vehicle's
Identification Number (VIN) is etched onto all the vehicle windows. Would-be
thieves resist stealing a vehicle that is VIN etched because that vehicle is
more easily identified and, if stolen, all glass must be replaced in order to
remove traces of the VIN.
This is a free service provided by the Authority. The Authority's staff,
state and local police officers, and volunteers from local insurance companies
will etch vehicles (weather permitting) on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Authority encourages you to spend some time with them on Saturday morning
to help protect your vehicle.
Pre-event questions about the Authority may be directed to Ken Robinson at
215-485-1636 or 717-975-0812.
