Gallatin Steel Earns Prestigious QS 9000 Certification; Company is One of the World's First Mini-Mills to Receive Honor
GHENT, Ky.--Sept. 26, 2000--Gallatin Steel announced today that the company has achieved the prestigious QS 9000 accreditation. The big three automakers created the QS 9000 designation as a product quality standard all suppliers are required to meet. Gallatin Steel is one of the world's first mini-mills to be accredited under this standard. To become accredited, a company must undergo a rigorous evaluation of all of its quality systems performed by an independent auditor.
"The QS 9000 accreditation is a milestone in the history of Gallatin Steel and something of which we are extremely proud," said Don Daily, Vice President and General Manager. "It is further evidence of the commitment everyone on the Gallatin team has made toward meeting the needs of our customers in terms of product quality and customer service."
The QS 9000 standard is based on another quality benchmark, the ISO 9000 standard, under which Gallatin Steel earned accreditation two years ago. "This is truly an honor for us," said Dean Hartley, Quality System Coordinator for Gallatin Steel. "We've worked hard to achieve QS 9000 status and, as a result of the improvements made during the accreditation process, we are confident we will be able to consistently provide our customers an even higher quality product in the future."
