Ford Motor Company and the MVF Mobilize Local Veterans and Volunteer Efforts; Minivan Presentation Today at 1 p.m. at Detroit Veterans Center
DEARBORN, Mich., Sept. 22 The Michigan Veterans
Foundation/Detroit Veterans Center supports homeless veterans through
mobility. On Friday, September 22, at 1 p.m., the Veterans Foundation will be
presented with a new Windstar minivan from Ford Motor Company at the
Detroit Veterans Center.
The donation stems from a partnership between Ford Motor Company and the
Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Ford Motor Company announced at this year's
Disabled American Veterans (DAV) National Convention in Reno, Nevada, several
new resourceful initiatives, including donations of $50,000 to the DAV
National Commander's Youth Volunteer Scholarship Awards program and 27
vehicles supporting transportation, homeless, and respite care projects.
The Detroit Veterans Center (DVC) is a transitional housing facility and
resource center. The DVC provides the skills and confidence needed for
homeless veterans to break the cycle of homelessness and return to independent
living.
The Michigan Veterans Foundation (MVF) is a non-profit agency whose
overall objective is to fill the gaps that currently exist in providing
services to veterans in Metropolitan Detroit. MVF's main project is the
Detroit Veterans Center-a well-planned and well-supported community project.
In addition to the van presentation, several staff from the Detroit
Veterans Center will receive the Four Chaplains Award. The award is given for
exemplary acts of charity and named after four Chaplains who offered their
lifejackets to sailors on the sinking U.S. Navy Warship Dorchester in World
War II.
