Delta Scientific's Bollard System Counters Terrorists at U.S. State Department Headquarters

VALENCIA, Calif.--Sept. 22, 2000--At the dedication of the United States State Department headquarters as the Harry S Truman Building held today, Delta Scientific's TT210-SS bollards provided a first line of defense, including securing the diplomatic and Congressional drive entrances.
The custom stainless steel bollards feature lights to improve visibility at night.
"Perimeter protection is an issue the State Department takes very seriously," emphasized David Dickinson, Delta Scientific senior vice president. "That's why we produce and deliver barrier systems that protect State Department employees at embassies throughout the world, especially from car and truck bombings and related attacks."
The Delta Scientific Series TT210 Vertical Lift bollard system is designed to destroy the front suspension system, steering linkage, engine crank case and portions of the drive train of any 15,000 pound (66.7 kN) non-armored or non-tracked vehicle hitting them at 62 mph (100 kph). It also stops 30,000 pound (133 kN) vehicles at 44 mph (71 kph). It has also been full scale tested to a U.S. Department of State standard.
The bollards are raised and lowered into the guard position by a remotely controlled precision hydraulic power unit or a precision pneumatic power system. Under emergency conditions, the bollards can be raised in as little as a single second. With the exception of minor non-structural damage, such as scratches, they are fully operational after taking a 65 mph (104 kph) hit from a five ton (44.4 kN) vehicle.
