Ward's Reports Estimated Production
    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Sept. 22 Vehicle production this week
in the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 357,787 units,
up from the 297,616 cars and trucks built last week, according to Ward's
Automotive Reports.
    Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now
totals 12,903,189 vehicles, up 2.7 percent from like-1999's pace.
    In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 258,759 vehicles this
week, an increase of 24.3 percent from the 208,197 cars and trucks built last
week.  To date, calendar 2000 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated
9,388,031 units, up 1.2 percent from the 9,279,445 vehicles built in like-
1999.
    This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 62,345, a 30.7
percent increase from the 47,712 units assembled last week.  Estimated
calendar-2000 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 2,162,379 units, down
0.5 percent compared to the 2,172,331 vehicles produced in like-1999.
    Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S.,
General Motors Corp. accounted for 35.8 percent; Ford Motor Co., 27.2 percent;
Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 13.5 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 5.1
percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 4.9 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 3.1
percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 2.9 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive
Inc., 1.8 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 2.2 percent;
AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.7 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of
DaimlerChrysler, 0.6 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 0.8 percent; and
other manufacturers, 1.4 percent.
