eFilter, The World's First Digital Marketplace for Industrial Filters and Filtration Products, Goes Online

    CHARLOTTE, N.C.--Sept. 21, 2000--

eFilter provides first comprehensive online resource for plant engineers to learn about and purchase brand-name filters

A new Web site designed to help manufacturers, purchasing agents, process engineers and other professionals learn about, source and buy filters and filtration products directly over the Internet goes online today.
eFilter (www.efilter.com) represents the easiest, most complete way for industry and manufacturers to purchase brand-name filtration products for their plant, laboratory, refinery and other industrial locations where filtration plays a key role in production. eFilter goes online today offering more than 75,000 products for use in a range of industries.
The site also includes the most extensive digital library in the world dedicated to helping process engineers and purchasing agents understand the exact use of filters in more than 100 applications.
Worldwide, the filtration industry represents a several billion dollars a year industry, serving many of the world's most vital core industries such as the automotive, health care and chemical industries. eFilter was created by Beacon E-Commerce, a Charlotte-based developer of online distribution marketplaces serving industrial markets.
The company is backed by more than $3 million in funding from First Union Capital Partners, an affiliate of First Union Corp., and Furman Selz, an affiliate of ING Barings, LLC.
"eFilter is much more than simply a dot com play," says Steven E. Moeller. "Our executive management includes some of the leading filtration experts in the world who have combined their experience to provide both online technical assistance as well as an easy to use e-commerce solution for streamlining the purchasing process."
For instance, users of eFilter can engage trained application engineers in live chat directly over the Internet, anytime they have a specific question about the application, specifications or use of a filter. There is no fee for the service. At the same time, the inherent efficiencies of eFilter allow users to reduce the cost of procurement as much as 70%.
Because eFilter offers filters for every conceivable use--from HVAC to automotive, industrial processing, petrochemical refining, biomedical applications to affluent processing--users can order all their filters from a single, cost-efficient source.
According to Moellers, eFilter represents the first step in a strategy to develop a comprehensive plant management e-commerce site where purchasing agents and process engineers will be able to learn more about and purchase a range of products, including compressed gas and eventually maintenance and production supplies.
"We believe that the industrial supply industry provides a huge online opportunity to streamline the purchasing process while providing customers more perfect information on the products they buy to manage plants and equipment," says Moellers. "eFilter is the first step in a huge worldwide market that we plan to quickly penetrate before expanding the concept into new products and services."
