Statement of Bridgestone/Firestone Regarding Union Contract Ratification

    NASHVILLE, Tenn., Sept. 21 Bridgestone/Firestone, Inc., is
extremely pleased to announce that the United Steelworkers of America have
ratified three contracts covering 8,000 workers at nine facilities in eight
states.  These are competitive and fair agreements, reached after good faith
negotiations by both parties.
    With final ratification, Bridgestone/Firestone moves into the future with
confidence.  We will continue to work together to meet the needs of our
customers and reestablish Firestone's proud, century-old, world-class brand.
