Fiat Auto Purchases Two Advanced Measuring Systems From Brown & Sharpe DEA
NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I.--Brown & Sharpe DEA has signed a contract with Fiat Auto S.p.A. to supply two high accuracy, high throughput coordinate measuring machines to inspect car bodies on the production floor. The contract is valued at more than $1.1 million. The two large, dual-arm BRAVO NT measuring machines will be integrated with automatic part loading systems in Fiat Auto's Cassino plant, and will verify the dimensional accuracy of various versions of car bodies and their sub-assemblies. The measuring machines are equipped with a dual-carriage loading system on which car bodies will be transferred automatically by a trolley from the production line and then transferred to the body paint shop at the end of measurement.
The BRAVO NT measuring machines are equipped with advanced statistical analysis software developed by Brown & Sharpe DEA, and will be linked via Ethernet to a central factory computer for statistical process evaluation based on measurement data. The high throughput BRAVO NT machines will allow Fiat Auto to reduce reaction times in case of assembly line problems, prevent rejects by improving process control and maintain high quality production standards.
