Avis Group Named Top Logistics & Transportation Company In InformationWeek 500 Ranking of Leading Technology UsersAvis Group Among Top 20 of All 500 Companies Covering 24 Industries; Cited for Ability to Leverage Technology Across Multiple Divisions GARDEN CITY, N.Y., Sept. 21 Avis Group Holdings, Inc. , a world leader in comprehensive automotive transportation and vehicle management solutions, has been named the top logistics and transportation company in the latest InformationWeek 500 rankings of the most innovative technology users across 24 industries. Among all 500 companies, Avis Group was ranked 19th for its technical innovation and was also the only firm with major car rental operations to place within the top 200. InformationWeek requires chosen companies to "demonstrate a pattern of technological, procedural and organizational innovation." Firms are selected after an extensive mail, phone and fax study, and a survey of company information technology executives to review organizational priorities and spending plans for the year ahead. In a story accompanying the rankings, the magazine cited Avis Group's ability to leverage technology across multiple divisions by using "the talent and expertise of the companies it acquired," including the 1999 acquisitions of PHH, the world's second-largest fleet management and leasing company, and Wright Express, the world's largest fleet card provider. As an example, InformationWeek focused on Avis Group's ability to leverage PHH InterActive(R), an interactive, business-to-business extranet that lets customers access a wide range of fleet information via the Internet. The PHH InterActive platform was used to develop and launch Avis InterActive, the car rental industry's first and only Internet-based information system to provide corporate customers with aggregated information on car rental expenses and utilization, as well as specific renter preferences. "When it comes to technology, Avis Group holds a widening lead over its competitors, thanks to our individual achievements at Avis Rent A Car, PHH and Wright Express, and the ability of our people to move technology across multiple divisions for the benefit of all customers," said A. Barry Rand, Avis Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "It's a distinction that sets Avis apart and puts us in the ranks of the world's most advanced companies. It is also a well-deserved honor for our information technology team and thousands of Avis Group employees who use new technologies to better serve our customers." Joining Avis Group among the top 20 companies cited by InformationWeek were firms such as 3Com, Compaq, Cisco Systems and Sprint. Following Avis in the logistics and transportation rankings were companies such as Continental Airlines, FedEx, Delta Airlines and UPS. The rankings are available at http://www.informationweek.com. This is one of a number of technology honors for Avis Group, whose PHH division became one of 100 companies to receive CIO magazine's CIO-100 Award in August for demonstrating "excellence, innovation and improved business performance through the use of customer-oriented practices." PHH was honored for "making the customer central to doing business and setting the benchmarks for others to follow," and it has also received the ComputerWorld Smithsonian Awards Laureate Medal, the InformationWeek e-Business 100 Award and the CIO Web Business 50/50 Award.
