Rules, Entry Form for Detroit Press Club's 2001 International Wheel Awards Now Available, Online
BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich., Sept. 20 Rules and entry forms
for the Detroit Press Club Foundation's 2001 International Wheel Awards
competition are now available online on the Foundation's Web site,
http://www.dpcf.org , or by fax.
Added this year are categories for still photography and the Internet,
marking a turning point for the 35-year-old Foundation. "We've finally opened
the competition to Web-based journalism, a notion we've discussed before but
haven't been able to resolve," said Edward Lapham, Foundation president and
editor of Automotive News. "Because many Web writers undergo no editorial
review, we wanted to be sure that entries have had the same editorial scrutiny
as those in traditional media. We think we solved that by only accepting
'Best News-Internet' entries submitted by the Web media that are extensions of
traditional news media."
In the photography category, print entries will be judged on creative
expression of the theme, "Passion for Automobiles."
Other categories are: Best News Story -- Newspaper, General Interest
Magazine/Special Interest Publication, Television and Radio; Best Editorial or
Column (Print); Best News Programming/Documentary (Broadcast) and Best Product
Review/Evaluation (Print).
The Wheel Awards competition was established by the 35-year-old Foundation
as an extension of its charter to foster excellence in journalism and in
recognition of Detroit and Michigan's global significance in the auto
industry.
Entries are available by calling the Foundation at 248-642-2442 and
requesting that a form be faxed, or by downloading an entry form file online
at: http://www.dpcf.org .
