Free Vehicle VIN Etching Offered in Lehigh County; Vehicle Identification Numbers Etched Onto Vehicle Windows as a Means Of Theft Prevention
ALLENTOWN, Pa., Sept. 20 The Pennsylvania Auto Theft
Prevention Authority and the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office will be
holding a free VIN etching event on Saturday, September 23, 2000 from
10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The event will be held at the Lehigh Valley Mall,
next to the Firestone tire center.
VIN etching is a proven theft deterrent, where the Vehicle's
Identification Number (VIN) is etched on to all the vehicle windows. Would-be
thieves resist stealing a vehicle that is VIN etched because that vehicle is
more easily identified and, if stolen, all glass must be replaced in order to
remove traces of the VIN.
This is a free service provided by the Authority and the District
Attorney's Office. The Authority's staff, local and county police officers,
and volunteers from local insurance companies will etch vehicles (weather
permitting) on a first-come, first-served basis. The Authority encourages you
to spend some time with them on Saturday morning to help protect your vehicle.
Pre-event questions about the Authority may be directed to Ken Robinson at
215-485-1636 or 717-975-0812.
