Bethlehem Steel Receives Quest for Excellence Award

20 September 2000

Bethlehem Steel Receives Quest for Excellence Award from `Automotive Industries Magazine'
BETHLEHEM, Pa., Sept. 19 Bethlehem Steel has
received Automotive Industries magazine's 2000 "Quest for Excellence" award as
one of "the best of the best" suppliers in the automotive industry.
In its third annual "Quest for Excellence" survey, Automotive Industries
asked its subscribers, on the basis of their own experiences, to rank
automotive suppliers "on the critical issues of quality, price, delivery,
service/response, and innovation." To ensure the accuracy of the survey, the
magazine enlisted the help of PricewaterhouseCoopers' Survey Research Center
in developing, mailing and tabulating the survey questionnaires.
To determine "the best of the best," Automotive Industries asked its
subscribers if the supplier consistently meets its quality standards, if it
meets target pricing requirements, if it has consistent, dependable delivery
of materials and services, if it responds quickly and effectively to customer
requests, and if it suggests innovative concept and solutions.
In announcing the awards, Automotive Industries said that it "clearly
recognizes the outstanding job suppliers do in creating high-quality,
value-added products for their OEM (original equipment manufacturer)
customers" and noted that "excellence is the foundation on which all top
supplier companies are built."
Commenting on the award, David M. Beinner, senior vice-president,
commercial, Bethlehem Steel, said: "This award for supplier excellence is
especially meaningful because it reflects the opinions of Automotive
Industries' subscribers, and those subscribers are key employees of our
automotive customers. Winning this award is a tribute to the skill and
dedication of all Bethlehem employees who are involved in developing,
producing and shipping high-quality steel products for the automotive
industry. They should be very proud of their accomplishment."
