Diesel Technology Forum Announces Interactive Web Site
WASHINGTON, Sept. 19 Did you know that diesel truck
engines manufactured today have over 80% fewer emissions than those built just
13 years ago? Do you know where you can find facts about diesel power and its
applications in public transportation, trucking, agriculture, marine, and
railroad operations? The answers and other important information concerning
diesel power can now be found on the new interactive Web site launched
recently by the Diesel Technology Forum.
The Web site is designed to aid journalists, researchers, transportation
analysts, government leaders, environmentalists, health officials, and the
public-at-large to learn more about the important role diesel technology plays
in improving the environment, and driving the economy through the development
of cleaner and more efficient vehicles and diesel engines.
"The Forum's Web site brings the story of diesel power from the nation's
streets, farms, waterways, and roadways to the new information highway,"
stated David Bartlett, spokesman for Diesel Technology Forum, which is based
near Washington DC. "We welcome all the stakeholders in this important issue
to see what has been accomplished in advanced diesel technology, and to view
the future roles of clean diesel technology."
Diesel is the primary power source for the nation's heavy-duty truck and
bus fleet. Modern diesel engines are the cleanest, most reliable, durable and
most energy efficient sources of power available for these and hundreds of
other applications. The latest heavy duty diesel highway trucks emit only
1/8 the emissions of trucks manufactured just over a decade ago.
The modern diesel engine has a broad spectrum of uses providing almost
limitless power for trains, marine craft, earth movers and even back-up
electrical generating capacity that supports the operation of main frames, PC
networks, telecommunications/cell phone networks, and Web sites of e-commerce.
The Diesel Technology Forum is committed to further improving modern diesel
technology while reducing emissions from existing engines through support of
current engine smoke-testing enforcement programs and encouraging the
retrofitting of older existing engines.
The Web site contains background on the Diesel Technology Forum, and the
various components of the diesel industry. These are in the form of news
releases, fact sheets on topics including government regulations, emissions
performance and diesel technology; membership information; and, links to more
then 50 related Web sites. Whether the user chooses to link to the sites of
environmental organizations, or those of related diesel industries or health
research groups, the Forum's Web site is intended to be an asset to any
organization or individual interested in the ongoing dialogue on
transportation and cleaner air.

The Diesel Technology Forum is an organization of leading companies in
diesel technology, engine and vehicle manufacturing, and petroleum refining
formed to create a new dialogue and encourage the full exchange of information
and views on a full range of issues concerning today's diesels and tomorrow's
advancing diesel technologies.
