Byron Kearney Joins DaimlerChrysler as Director - Vehicle Development - Small Car PlatformAUBURN HILLS, Mich., Sept. 18 DaimlerChrysler Corporation announced today that Byron A. Kearney has been appointed Director - Vehicle Development - Small Car Platform, reporting to Larry D. Lyons, Vice President - Small Car Platform Engineering. Kearney joins DaimlerChrysler from General Motors, where he most recently served as Vehicle Chief Engineer - Large Cars for the North American Car Group. "I am extremely pleased to have Byron join our team," said Lyons. "Byron comes to us with a very strong background in virtually all phases of engineering, as well as having a true passion for cars and trucks." In this position, Kearney will be responsible for all vehicle product development activities for the Small Car Platform. Kearney's previous assignments with General Motors included Director - "J" Car planning for General Motors' J Car program, Program Management responsibilities for Oldsmobile Luxury vehicles, and management of Oldsmobile's engineering facility at the desert proving grounds. His experience also includes powertrain interface and coordination, product development responsibilities in vehicle chassis and electrical, fuel and exhaust, and steering and suspension systems. Kearney holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina A&T State University and is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon's Graduate School of Industrial Administration Executive Program.
