SDRC Most Successful Partner for Transitioning CADAM Users to Solids
FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla.--Sept. 18, 2000--SDRC , a global supplier of e-business collaboration solutions for the product lifecycle, today announced at the ICUE (International CADAM Users Exchange) 2000 Conference that over 275 former 2D-based CADAM customers have successfully transitioned to a collaborative solids-based engineering solution, SDRC I-DEAS(R)."For more than half a decade, SDRC has invested in helping CADAM users migrate to its I-DEAS solids-based engineering system," said Bruce Jenkins, executive vice president, Daratech. "It has developed both drafting and data-translation functionality aimed at protecting these users' 2D work processes and data assets while readying them for the move to 3D. Although the competition for this customer base is intense, the power and appeal of SDRC's approach is visible in the more than one million CADAM drawings it has translated into I-DEAS Drafting format for its customers to date."
SDRC offers a two-step approach for users to move from 2D to 3D by first introducing them to I-DEAS(R) Drafting(TM), a 2D environment that supports the users' current familiarity with CAD technology. I-DEAS Drafting provides complete functionality for creating detailed production mechanical drawings, and uses the Dynamic Navigator(TM) style of user interaction to support ease of use. To date, SDRC customers have translated over one million CADAM drawings to I-DEAS Drafting, and trained over 5,000 former CADAM users to quickly become productive in a 3D environment.
"SDRC has a very good track record in migrating CADAM customers to I-DEAS," said David Weisberg, president, Technology Automation Services and former publisher of Engineering Automation Report. "They have taken a two-prong approach whereby customers first migrate CADAM data to I-DEAS and continue using existing 2D drafting processes with I-DEAS. After a comfort level is achieved, the customers then move on to solids modeling using I-DEAS. This minimizes the disruption to the existing design process, allowing companies to move from 2D to 3D without sacrificing an overall loss in productivity."
SDRC has documented results representing many customers who have successfully migrated from CADAM to I-DEAS, including the following:
"SDRC's proven capabilities in the migration of CADAM data, their customer orientation, and their ability to provide a total integrated solution that links our development teams were all key elements in our decision to select SDRC as our partner of choice over other solutions we evaluated," said Don Leake, vice president of operations at Minster Machine Company.
"The strength of the drafting product was clearly a deciding factor in our choice of I-DEAS. We expected it to give us a two-fold increase in speed over our previous solution, but it's actually proven to be four times faster," stated Mike Hirsch, Kimball International.
"The feature I'm most excited to see in I-DEAS 8 is Master Notation, SDRC's new 3D annotation tool," said Mohamad Samadi of Lexmark International. "At Lexmark, we're moving away from drawings and becoming more solid-centric. Master Notation will help us achieve that goal. It will provide us with a shorter development cycle and allow us to interface a lot more smoothly with our suppliers and partners."
