Alexander, Ouimette Swap Management Assignments
PITTSBURGH--Sept. 15, 2000--J. Rich Alexander and Bernard Ouimette have swapped management assignments at PPG Industries , Alexander becoming general manager of global industrial coatings and Ouimette named general manager of fiber glass reinforcements.The moves reflect the company's program to strengthen its businesses by broadening the experiences of its managers.
Alexander, 45, began his career with PPG in 1978 as a fiber glass market research analyst in Pittsburgh. The next year he moved to Detroit in a sales post in automotive fiber glass operations before becoming branch sales manager for fiber glass reinforcements in Columbus, Ohio, in 1982.
Alexander returned to Pittsburgh in 1985 as marketing manager for reinforced plastics. He moved to Los Angeles in 1986 to become zone sales manager for the Western region. In 1992 he returned to Pittsburgh as director of marketing for reinforcements and in 1995 was named director of sales and marketing for fiber glass electronic and specialty materials.
Alexander was named general manager, electronic and specialty materials in 1996. He was named general manager of fiber glass reinforcements in 1997.
Alexander earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Kent State University and an MBA from Capital University.
Ouimette, 52, joined PPG in 1985 as a management trainee in Pittsburgh, later moving to Wuppertal, Germany, to become market manager for packaging coatings, Europe. In 1988 he moved to Erlanger, Ky., as manager of publication inks, a business PPG has since divested.
Ouimette returned to Pittsburgh in 1990, spending six months as market development manager for industrial coatings before being named director, general industrial coatings for the United States. He moved to Paris in 1994 as general manager, industrial coatings, Europe. He returned to Pittsburgh in 1998 as general manager of global industrial coatings.
Ouimette graduated from Nichols College in 1970 with a degree in marketing. He spent seven years in the U.S. Air Force before earning his MBA from Thunderbird, the American Graduate School of International Management.
PPG is a global supplier of coatings, chemicals, glass and fiber glass, with about 120 manufacturing locations in 23 countries. Sales in 1999 were US$7.8 billion.
