Pennzoil-Quaker State Company Announces Scholarship RecipientsHOUSTON, Sept. 15 Pennzoil-Quaker State Company today announced that ten students of current and past employees have been selected as scholarship recipients. The company has committed more than $106,000 to 43 scholarship recipients through its Scholars Program for the 2000-2001 academic year. Since 1985, Pennzoil-Quaker State Company has awarded more than $1.8 million in scholarships to 217 children of past and present employees. Each year's recipients are judged on the basis of scholastic achievement, leadership ability, high school activities, and college potential. The students receive $2,500 a year, for up to four years, or until a bachelor's degree is earned. Judging and administration of the program is provided by Scholarship Management Services of St. Peter, Minnesota. This year recipients include 10 students from six different states. -- Stephen L. Daspit of Spring, Texas is the son of former Employee Communications Manager Larry Daspit. Stephen is majoring in Business at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas. -- Felicia K. Estrada of Pittsburg, California is the daughter of the late Lorenzo A. Estrada. Felicia is attending Stanford University in Stanford, California. -- Jillian S. Everly of Manlius, New York is the daughter of New York Distribution Center Manager Michael B. Everly. Jillian is majoring in Political Science at Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont. -- Nicole E. Havlik of The Woodlands, Texas is the daughter of Pilot Plant Senior Engineer Peter Z. Havlik. Nicole is majoring in Instrumental Music Education at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. -- Roy G. Hughes Jr. of Greenwood, Louisiana is the son of Lab Technician Roy G. Hughes, Sr. Roy is majoring in Physical Science at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. -- La Toya M. Jones of Fort Worth, Texas is the daughter of Jiffy Lube General Manager Willie H. Jones. La Toya is majoring in Computer Information Systems at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas. -- Keith V. Lawler Jr. of Houston, Texas is the son of IT Specialist David M. Doucet. Keith is majoring in Chemistry at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas. -- Dimitri M. Thomas of The Woodlands, Texas is the son of Senior Chemist Petunia M. Thomas. Dimitri is majoring in Bio-Engineering at Rice University in Houston, Texas. -- Lesly A. Underdown of Phoenix, Arizona is the daughter of Shreveport Refinery Inspector Charles P. Underdown. Lesly is majoring in Biology at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. -- Zachary S. Webber of Oil City, Pennsylvania is the son of Reno Packaging Plant Production Manager Douglas S. Webber.
